OUR PARISH
The Parish of St Vincent de Paul, Norden includes the local areas of Norden, Caldershaw, Rooley Moor, Shawclough, Cutgate, Greave, Spotland, Passmonds, Oakenrod, Oulder Hill, Bamford, Broadhalgh, Kenyon Fold, Bagslate Moor, Ashworth, Shawfield and Wolstenholme. In the early 1900’s the Redemptorists had a seminary on what became the site of the Rochdale Riviera and for most of the 1930’s there was a chapel of ease on Spring Bank Lane - See the History Notes page. Eventually after more than 100 years as an outlying part of the Parish of St. Johns in Rochdale, St. Vincents was established as a Parish in its own right in 1940 with a temporary chapel built by voluntary labour opposite 68 Rooley Moor Road. In 1975 the current Church in Norden was established to cater for the growing population in the area on the West of Rochdale.
With a congregation of 3,400 Catholics it is one of the larger Parishes in the Deanery of St. Therese of Lisieux. Our Parish Priest and Dean, Canon Paul Brindle, has served the Parish since his appointment in 2002. The Presbytery is next to the Church and the Parish Centre and St. Vincents Catholic Primary School are close by.
