John’s Charity is HCPT Group 44 (Manchester Region). This is a charity offering pilgrimage holidays to Lourdes in the south of France, for disabled and disadvantaged people from around the UK and further afield. The Manchester Region is just one of many regions within HCPT. and these pilgrimage holidays are all about fun and friendship. Many describe their experience as positive and life affirming; something that they will value for the rest of their lives. For more information click HERE

An introduction to our circle It was originally formed as North Manchester in 1954 with Joe Murphy as the founder President. The first meeting was held at the Grand Hotel in Manchester with 53 Brothers forming the new Circle, 26 of whom were transferring from other Circles and 27 were new Catenians.
In 1963 a separate Middleton Circle was formed with North Manchester contributing about 12 of its members. Middleton continued as a separate Circle until July 1998 when it merged with North Manchester to become the present Circle.
Many Brothers of the Circle have gone on to hold office at Provincial level, with a number becoming Provincial President. The Circle is very active meeting monthly at Pike Fold Golf Club.
Circle Activities
We have an excellent range of social events with recent visits to Leeds Armoury, Manchester Town Hall, Chetham’s School of Music, Bridgewater Hall, Manchester Police Museum, The Imperial War Museum and we have had our Circle Cruise from Manchester to Liverpool on the Ship Canal.
We have Ferret Racing! Sue White is pictured receiving the outrageously small trophy while her assistants care for her stable of runners.
President John is a an enthusiastic member of our own busking group (pictured here at their regular pitch near the world famous Bury Market). They even have their own groupie.
Other social events include Ladies Evenings, Clergy Nights, various quizzes and raffles and other competitions such as Indoor Boules, and Putting Competitions and after Circle talks; the last was by President John’s son, Dean, on the subject of Angel Meadows, a notorious slum area of Manchester
We are a Catholic social organisation and are not geared towards major charitable activities and fund raising. However, besides the funds, which we raise each year for our President’s Charity, we are also very pleased to help young volunteers defray some of the costs of participating as helpers on the Salford Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes.
