The Latin word Catena means a chain and The Catenian Association is a chain of which the individual local Circles are the links.
Each Circle is a member of a Province, which reports directly to the Grand Council of the Association.
While each Circle is based on a geographical area, these areas are very loosely defined and it may be that a prospective member may wish to join a Circle other than his local one on the basis of different considerations such as convenience of meeting nights.
Each Circle has its own President and committee members, who form the Circle Council, which generally meets on a monthly basis. Many Circles take an open house approach to these Council meetings and invite all members of the Circle to attend, with a view to encouraging maximum participation by all and exclusion of none.
